A Memoir of Carl is the third book in the Ravens Deep series. The first two books followed Darius and Madeline into the dark world of the undead. This book follows Carl on his journey from Scotland to the stage of the London Theater where he falls foul of a vampire, is bitten, and becomes one of the undead.
We follow his evolution into an Immortal and the dark and dangerous world he is forced to inhabit. The journey is an emotional roller-coaster as he tries to live an authentic life with his true love a ballerina named Sarah, while fighting his own need to feed on human blood. It's truly a battle between conscience and survival that often has tragic consequences for those that know him or just cross his path.
Although the main story is centered upon Carl, readers of the previous books will be pleased to see familiar characters putting in appearances, indeed the characters of Madeline and Darius are often driving forces behind Carl's actions and predicaments.
All in all, this is a wonderfully written story, rich in imagery and detail. The beginning will captivate you with its chilling hook, and if the end doesn't leave you in tears, then you are probably a member of the undead yourself. There's even a fully rendered ballet, artfully described, along with all the gothic buildings and scenery that you have come to expect from Jane Jordan's writing.
Wonderful book and a wonderful end to the trilogy.
